Soma is a Cape Town based professional belly dance company providing the highest quality performances and workshops. SOMA was established in 2006 to expand the art of fusion belly dance in South Africa. We are based in Cape Town and do travel for functions and workshops nationally and internationally. This particular style has its routes in the ancient North African, Gypsy and Arabic belly dance forms, with strong influences from Spanish and Indian dance. This creates a rich, deep feel to this graceful dance. As everything is constantly evolving, this style is also influenced by various contemporary dance forms. This brings in an expansive and modern lilt, adding a playful side to the atmosphere. Our team of dancers all have very diverse backgrounds in the performing arts, which lends a rich blend of style and innovation to the performance troupe. Our performances are guaranteed to complete your event as SOMA goes beyond the norm to bring you a dynamic expression of art that is graceful, rich and mesmerizing, with costuming inspired by ancient tribes from around the world. We tailor our performance to cater to the unique needs and budget of your event. Bellydancers meet and greet - Providing a mysterious and exotic flair, often good at the beginning of an evening, perhaps accompanied by a middle eastern drummer, the bellydancers will mingle through your guests (moving silent mannequins), swathed in their finery creating an authentic atmosphere. Bellydance performance - This is always a feast to behold, one or more bellydancers provide a full choreographed show for the guests. This includes dynamic dances with and without props, and dancing through the audience.

If you have something specific in mind, props we work with include: Isis Wings, Candle Palms, Fire Palms, Sword Balancing, Finger Cymbals. Henna Artist - To add something a little extra and special to your evening, a henna artist can adorn your guests with token designs so they may become and active part of the evening and take the memorable evening home with them. Percussionists - Although we do not have in house percussionists, we often collaborate with very talented musicians, offering authentic middle eastern rhythms, so we will gladly put you in touch with whomever is available. Package - Bellydancers arrive and mingle through your audience for 30 minutes creating an authentic mood. Later in the evening they provide 20 minutes of dazzling entertainment including choreographed dances, mingling through the audience and props, can incorporate 2-6 dancers.
